Configure a field in N4

Administration Settings Fields Fields view Edit Metafield form

You can use the Edit Metafield form (on page 1) to configure a metafield in N4. The attributes you can edit depend on the type of field selected. For information on flex fields, see Configuring a flex field in N4 (on page 1) in the Navis N4: Customization Administrator Guide.

To configure a field in N4:

  1. Log in at the highest scope at which you want to override the characteristics of a field.

You can override a field only at the current scope level or at a lower scope level.

  1. In the Administration Settings Fields Fields view (on page 1), double-click the field you want to override.

You can also select the field in the list view and click .

The Edit Metafield form displays.

  1. From the Scope area on the left, select the scope level at which you want to override the field characteristics.

  2. Click Override.

N4 enables the fields in the Metafield Override area.

  1. Enter new values in the respective fields. The attributes you can edit depend on the type of field you selected.

N4 displays the default values of these fields in the Default Definition area.

The Display Unit field is only displayed for measurement fields, such as Gross Weight, Height, Length, Carbon Dioxide Required, or Temp Observed.

  1. Click Save.

N4 applies the new value at the selected scope level and any lower scope level(s).

In the Scope area, the selected scope level changes from gray to black. This indicates that the values of the fields you edited are different from the values inherited from a higher scope level. All lower scope levels inherit the new values of the fields that you override.

  1. Click Cancel to close the Edit Metafield form.

After you save the changes to a field, you must select Actions Reset to propagate the changes to the forms and list views where the field is used. For example, if you change the Long Label for a field, you must select Actions Reset to view the changes in the form where N4 displays the field. N4 does not record updates that affect only flex fields on the History, Events tab. If an update also includes other fields, N4 captures the full update, including all field changes, in a history event that appears on the History, Events tab. Even if N4 does not record the event against the entity on the History, Events tab, N4 Mobile sends all field changes to N4 when you save.

N4 execute the Reset action only on the current node where you are logged in. If you have installed N4 in a cluster, you must execute the Reset action on each node so that the changes are propagated to all the instances of N4 in the cluster.
